Peter Gabriel

My favorite artist. I cannot say enough good things about his music. It is wonderful to listen to, can really move you at times, and his live shows cannot be beat. The best thing to ever come out of the UK. Period. You should check out this former lead singer for Genesis if you ever get the chance!

Jimmy Eat World

Another favorite of mine. This band out of Arizona was very popular in the indie "emo-core" scene until the album "Bleed American" (later retitled to just "Jimmy Eat World" after 9/11) hit the scenes. This album changed them into a very popular mainstream band. All of their albums are just phenomenal, though. Check them out!

Kaiser Chiefs

A new band out of the UK. Their album is outstanding and I've heard they are an incredible live show to see as well. They're very popular in the UK and should be around for a long time to come...

Maxïmo Park

Another new band out of the UK that is creating a lot of buzz. Their album is absolutely incredible and I cannot wait until they finally have a US tour.

Hard-Fi

Younger British band that is also doing quite well. I can't say enough about this album and I think they'll be one of the bands that does well in both the US and the UK. They are finally touring the US soon and I hope I get to make their show!

The Killers

What an incredible album from this Las Vegas band! Yet I don't know that any website is their "official" website. So the link below is the record labels page for them. To listen to their clips from their album "Hot Fuss", go to here.

We Are Scientists

A great band out of Brooklyn that I found by simply watching Letterman one night. Their album "With Love And Squalor" has quickly grown into one of my current favorites.

The Rakes

Another great album by a new UK band. "Capture/Release" can really be classified as a "fun" album. Lots of songs about love, boozing, and partying.

Athlete

Softer sounding band out of the UK. An almost Cold Play kinda sound to them. Just another great album. They're currently on tour with Switchfoot and I expect them to do well here in the US.

The Strokes

A US band that's always been more popular in the UK. You might recognize some of their songs from their debut album "Is This It". But their new album is really good, too, and should definately be checked out.

The Subways

A very young band out of the UK, described by some as a potential disaster waiting to happen. Not because of their music, though, which is really good. It's because the band consists of a young man, Billy, his girlfriend, Charlotte, and his half-brother, Josh. Any kind of family or love troubles could mean the end of The Subways.

Oasis

Speaking of family troubles, the brothers in Oasis, Liam and Noel, always seemed to be on each other's last nerve. But they've recently "changed their tunes" and are still one of the best bands to ever come out of the UK. The album to the left, "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" is one of my all-time favorites. Definately check this one out.

The Magic Numbers

A very different band from the others on this page. They almost have a bit of a folk music + 70's style sound to them. That being said, this UK group is very good and the album is a must listen!

The Outfield

A very popular UK band during the 80's that are actually still around and still making great music. One of my favorite all-time bands.

Editors

The Editors are another great band coming out of the UK today. "The Back Room" is another album that is hard to put away once you start listening to it.

Franz Ferdinand

Not the Archduke of the Austro-Hungarian empire, but the popular UK rock band. Terrific band. Both albums are excellent and I've also heard that they're a fun band live.

Elbow

Another more mellow band out of the UK. Powerful vocals and powerful lyrics lead the way in Elbow's albums. Their latest, "Leaders Of The Free World" is spectacular.

Bloc Party

Out of the UK. They have a much bigger following there than in the US. This is their first album, though, and it is quite good. They could have a future in the US as well, but I predict that they'll always be bigger overseas.

The Bravery

A good band out of NYC that has some kind of ongoing feud with The Killers. I don't know why. Their sounds are very different, IMHO. The first track, "An Honest Mistake" off of their debut album is one of the best songs of 2005.

Weezer

A tough competition between which band looks geekier: Weezer or We Are Scientists. But musically they don't compete because their sounds are different. Weezer has been a great band for a long time now and they continue to make excellent albums. They hail from Los Angeles and make us all hope that the west coast never does really sink into the sea.

José Peña Suazo y La Banda Gorda

A Dominican-based merengue band, La Banda Gorda makes the kind of music that incontrollably causes you to dance whether you know how to or not. Infectious beats and great rhythms. (And the words "La Banda Gorda" appear in every single one of their songs, so you'll always know it's theirs!)

Tonic

Tonic is one of those bands that takes forever to put out albums, but they're always great. A bit of a southern rock sound, this US band is currently on hiatus as all of the members are putting out their own albums. Hopefully they will remain a group and give us more music as such, as well.

The Presidents of the United States of America

Possibly one of the longest band names ever, The Presidents of the United States of America are, in my opinion, the best band ever to come out of Seattle. And there are a lot of bands out of Seattle anymore. Their first album is their best, but you still can't go wrong with any of them.

Talking Heads

The only band on my list that is not still together officially. One of my favorite bands, this US band broke up in 1992. The lead singer, David Byrne still makes decent music as a solo artist, but it will never be the same. If you have to pick up one album, get the double-CD set "Sand In The Vaseline: Popular Favorites". Most of their hits and a few unreleased and new tracks.
